The Bootloader B200uns

If you want to change your DVB9600 original firmware to DVB2000 it is necessary to get the BDM interface (BDM = abbreviation for a special processor mode of the DVB9600 when the processor does not work but the system allows data entry to the firmware flash ROM), then you need a cable to connect the PC (parallel port), and further, the most important = a tool - a screwdriver to open the DVB9600S box (4 side screws cannot be taken out with a cross-head screwdriver, for 3 rear panel screws a "star" screwdriver is necessary).

If you have all these things ready, you only need the software to communicate with the DVB9600 via the parallel LPT port - the TRANXBDM, then a new bootloader B200UNS (and one jumper = a jumper used in PC for temporary release of data entry to the EEPROM in DVB9600S) and the new firmware DVB2000. Then it is possible to make the required changes. Sometimes it may appear that the BDM interface (or the Tranxbdm software) does not work with fast Pentium III or IV computers but it works well with older computers like Pentium II (300-600 MHz).

Note 1: The principle problem of the original bootloader CI1.06 is that it does not allow 2-way communication over the serial port RS232, so that is why the channel editing cannot work with the bootloader CI1.06. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to install the new bootloader B2.00uns without help of the BDM interface because otherwise the data entry to those parts of the EEPROM is forbidden!!

Note 2: The bootloader installation is also possible with the help of Transbox Pro software, which used to be supplied by a German company Mascom (http://www.mascom.de) for about 10-20 Euro. The communication goes via the serial port RS232. Not tested.
Due to some reasons it is however better to use the BDM interface.

After the bootloader installation (it especially serves to communicate with the RS232), everything seems to be very simple. It is very useful to install the operating system DVB2000 (firmware) with the help of the BDM interface and then only the serial port RS232 can be used.
Transmission speed of the port is 38400 kb/s, it is quite fast, new firmware (update) upload takes about 2 minutes and channel upload takes about 30 secs (for about 500 channels).
For channel editing it is possible to use e.g. DVBEDIT, etc. For the OS DVB2000 upgrade you can also use SW Nokia Downloader v1.2 (works OK without any problem), of course without possibility of channel editing. Channel loading, editing and writting works well and fast with the DVBEDIT, too.

Finally it is necessary to be careful with the serial port RS232 handling (plug-in the cable rather at the DVB 9600 off power supply state).
